An excellent feature of SINUMERIK 840D for optimization of traverse velocity and surface quality: The integrated compressor. Based on linear blocks, program-to-spline conversion is possible on-line. This functionality is easy to activate in the part program. It has been extended to permit the spline compressor to smooth the orientation interpolation of a five-axis machine, too.

Reaching maximum velocity as fast as possible is decisive for the productivity of high-speed machining centers. This requires that changes inacceleration per time unit, called jerk, be limited to avoid stimulating machine resonance. The jerk limitation in SINUMERIK 840D makes an essential contribution to matching the control drive response to the machine dynamics.

A machine’s natural frequencies can adversely affect the maximum velocity of the machine and surface properties. That is why we have decisively improved the SINUMERIK 840D: Advanced Position Control (APC) increases the Kv factor while retaining the same machine characteristics, improves surface quality and thus increases productivity.
SINUMERIK 840D reduces contour errors on reversing using quadrant error compensation. The compensation characteristic and correction amplitude are calculated automatically and can be optionally adjusted. That simplifies start-up. And better simulation of the real curve improves precision. The system also enables simple subsequent optimization at the machine.

Frames allows you to make the transition from one Cartesian coordinate system to another. This SINUMERIK 840D functionality can also be used to translate, rotate, scale, and flip coordinate systems. A distinction is made between settable and programmable frames. Combining them in one frame sequence makes workpiece programming ex- tremely flexible. For example, machining of the inclined surface of a blank could not be simpler: as part of the frame concept, after settable zero offset calls (G54) the coordinate system is initially translated in three dimensions with TRANS before being rotated about the Y-axis with AROT . now it is precisely in the machining plane where machining will be performed. The whole operation is now also integrated with SINUMERIK 840D five-axis transformation.
SINUMERIK 840D is ideally equipped for high-speed data exchange between the control and host computer. The necessary Ethernet TCP/IP interface is a standard on-board feature.

For large data volumes it makes sense to execute them directly from the hard disk. The SINUMERIK 840D’s Ethernet TCP/IP interface is especially useful for transmission to the hard disk.
