MAPPS III holds the key to high-efficiency machining.

Even greater production efficiency in the machining industry. Existing machine tools, such as multi-axis machines which pursue efficient machining, are evolving to solve new problems. At the same time, the operating systems which allow those machine tools to run efficiently are also developing day by day.
Mori Seiki's MAPPS III is packed with functions to improve your factory's operating environment. In this issue, we will introduce these functions, which are designed to optimize the production site of the future.

System outline

  • Display
  • It uses a wide-angle, long-life, high-definition TFT display. The screen comes in two types, 10.4 inch and 15 inches, to provide the ideal operability for every machine size from compact to large.

  • Operating panel
  • We reviewed the type and position of every single switch from the operator's point of view, and the design gives top priority to operability and safety. It allows you to do quick, mistake-free setup.

  • User memory area
  • Not only are CAM operation and CAM data modification possible at the machine, but we have also provided a user memory area which can store far more CAM data than before.

Reduced programming time

We have prepared a range of functions, such as a method for manual editing of G codes, and the latest automatic programming, so that everyone from beginners to experienced technicians can program efficiently, regardless of their skill level.

  • Redo/undo function

We have added PC functions, and a function which allows you to undo editing and to restore the original data.

  • Standard block registration/insertion function

Standard blocks such as the details for each tool replacement can be registered and inserted, similar to the way that standard text messages can be inserted into an e-mail on a mobile phone.

  • The edited parts can be displayed in a different color.

Letters or blocks which have been changed are shown in a different color, so that you can see at a glance which parts have been edited. This is useful for the safety check during initial machining after editing.

  • 3D cutting simulations

Drawings can be created quickly, both for manually written G-code programs and programs written using the conversational function. (Refer Dia. 1)

  • Substantial conversational CAM functions

With the many machining menus for machining complex shapes such as islands and inlets, the optimal tool paths for the product and the finishing can be created easily. Path generation is 20% faster than on conventional systems, thanks to the increased CPU processing speed. Also, conversational data entered based on the drawings can be used to perform a drawing check (direct drawing) and to carry out direct operation.

  • High-speed canned cycles

Canned cycles allow high-speed cutting to be commanded with a single-line program. The optimal paths for high-speed cutting, such as the trochoid cycle, the cycle for grooving or slant face machining with multi-function tools, and the roughing step cycle can be created.

Reduced setup time

Frequently performed setup operations, from mounting the tools to centering the workpiece, are automated to save time on the factory floor.

  1. Even beginners can do tool length measurement and workpiece centering easily (machining centers)

  2. Reduced tailstock setting time by using a digital tailstock (lathes, multi-axis machines)

  3. Automatic tool length measurement for every insert replacement, with the presetter repeat function (lathes)

3D interference checking function

MAPPS checks the 3D data for the main structural parts such as the spindle, workpiece, chucks, tools, holders and turrets, and automatically stops the machine if it detects any interference. This is an extremely valuable function for safe and efficient operation, especially for multi-axis machines.

*This function is currently only available for the NT Series.

System software support is absolutely essential for high-efficiency production. By making the most of MAPPS III's functions, not only can you significantly reduce the time for everything from programming to machining, but you can also avoid human errors. With Mori Seiki's experienced technicians and our database of machine tool manufacturing knowledge, we are doing our best to develop efficient, easy-to use machines.
In future Mori Seiki will continue to suggest operating systems which will help you increase your production efficiency.
