Tokyo Kikai Seisakusho Co., Ltd., with the head office in Minato Ward, Tokyo and production bases in the Kanto and Kansai regions of Japan, is a veteran comprehensive printing system manufacturer founded in 1874, and has boasted Japan's largest market share. Since it produced Japan's first newspaper rotary press 100 years ago, the company has conducted integrated manufacturing from development to production for more than 30 various types of rotary presses and peripheral equipment. The company manufactures rotary presses at the Tamagawa Factory in the Kanto region and the Iga Techno Center in the Kansai region, and ships more than 200 units a year to customers all over the world, including Japan, Asian countries (Korea, China and Thai), and European countries.

A rotary press performs printing by transferring color inks (indigo, red, yellow, and black) on plate cylinders, which are wrapped with aluminum plates, onto a blanket cylinder. For high-quality printing, it is very important to prevent displacement and deformation of four color inks printed on the paper which is fed at a maximum speed of 15.2 m (49.9 ft) per second, and Tokyo Kikai Seisakusho machines achieve positioning error of less than 2 μm. Tokyo Kikai Seisakusho has responded to growing demands for high-quality printing by consistently improving the production system. For example, the company established a temperature-controlled machining area at a constant 22 ± 2 °C (71.6 ± 3.6 °F) in the Iga Techno Center in 2004.

Tokyo Kikai Seisakusho has used several Mori Seiki machines so far, and this time introduced two NT6600 DCG high-precision, high-efficiency integrated mill turn centers in order to achieve further high-precision machining. Mr. Yamashita, Chief of the Center said, "At first, we considered Mori Seiki and other companies' machines, but we found that only NT6600 DCG could achieve the required accuracy. The NT6600 DCG is an ideal machine for us because we produce a large number of products with different sizes and shapes, and we do not want to make a compromise for small or large workpieces."

In addition to the machining accuracy, Tokyo Kikai Seisakusho praised the NT6600 DCG for its process integration ability that offers shorter machining times and labor-saving. To make a special steel plate cylinder with a length of 2,500 mm (98.4 in.) and a diameter of 348 mm (13.7 in.), several processes including roughing, hole machining, surface machining and grooving are required. In the past, it took 20 hours to complete one component because setup change was necessary for each process. However, the NT6600 DCG requires no setup change and completes machining in less than half the time of conventional machines. Mr. Yanagi, General Manger of the Parts Department where 24-hour operations are conducted, praised the NT6600 DCG, saying "If we set up parts in the morning, they will be finished by the evening, and if we set up parts before we leave the factory, they will be finished by the next morning. In the past, we assigned one operator to one machine, but now we can leave multiple machines to one operator. Thanks to the introduction of the NT6600 DCG, we can realize a more efficient production system. "

In the future, the printing industry will shift its emphasis to much higher quality and multiple-item, small-lot printing. Tokyo Kikai Seisakusho, which has always provided customers with the industry's leading products, will further reinforce its production system so that it can respond to customer needs more flexibly and offer even more innovative products all over the world. Mori Seiki is very proud to be able to contribute to future advancement of Tokyo Kikai Seisakusho.
