NEWS/NEWSLETTERS/2007 Vol.3

Thank you to everyone who attended. EMO Hannover 2007 was a great success.

In the global machine tool market, demand in Europe is particularly strong, and the EMO Hannover 2007 international machine tool fair was held in Hannover, Germany from September 17 to 22. Many customers visited the Mori Seiki booth, and the tables which we prepared for business discussions were always full, with many positive negotiations taking place throughout the day.

More than 40% of the display models were multi-axis machines

Like JIMTOF in Japan and IMTS in the USA, EMO is one of the world's largest machine tool fairs. Since this year's EMO was held in more favorable economic conditions than ever before, over 2,000 companies from 41 countries exhibited. In particular, the number of companies from China increased by 80% from last time.
Under the theme of "Pure Technology," Mori Seiki displayed 26 models, including large and small 5-axis control machining centers, multi-axis machines, machining centers, CNC lathes, automation systems, software, etc in our booth, which was twice as big as last time. Our line-up accurately reflected the needs of the market, with 11 of the display models (more than 40%) being multi-axis machines such as 5-axis control machining centers. The concept of "Pure Technology" encompasses the notion of our "mature technical strengths."

A new line-up equipped with our original technologies

This year the highlights of the Mori Seiki booth were two large, 5-axis control machining centers. The vertical NMV8000 DCG and the horizontal NMH10000 DCG, which are both a larger class than Mori Seiki's previous multi-axis machines, made their world premiere at EMO as pre-release display models. The feature of these models is that they have taken maneuverability, which used to be a problem with large machines, to the highest level in their class, thanks to our original technologies, DCG® (Driven at the Center of Gravity) and DDM (Direct Drive Motor). At the same time, in our DuraTurn Series of CNC lathes, which have won high praise with their excellent reliability and cost performance, we exhibited a new line-up with milling specifications. By making the BMT (Built-in Motor Turret) standard for the milling turret, we have increased its machining performance.

Unveiling DIXI Machines' nanoprecision

The machines exhibited by DIXI Machines, a long-established machine tool manufacturer from Switzerland who joined the Mori Seiki Group this year, also attracted a lot of attention. DIXI Machines are sold with "Even higher precision than 3D measuring instruments," and many customers looked carefully at their JIG 1200, to check its ability for themselves. We think they were impressed with the nano-level machining accuracy during the machining demonstration of feed structure parts for grinding machines, which require high precision.

The Europe Cutting Dream Contest

Customers also took the time to inspect the entries in the Cutting Dream Contest, which was held in Europe for the first time. Selected entries from all over Europe were on display, and the awards ceremony took place in the Mori Seiki booth on the opening day of the exhibition. Just as in the Dream Contests in Japan and America, which have been held three times and once respectively, three winners were decided in each of the five categories, and we then celebrated their achievements with champagne.

At present there are about 20,000 Mori Seiki machines running in Europe, and at EMO we could feel a strong sense of trust from our customers. To meet their expectations, in future we will increase our staff in Europe from 350 to 400. We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the customers who visited during the six days of the EMO exhibition.

The German President visits the Mori Seiki booth

On September 17, the opening day of EMO Hannover 2007, the German President Horst Koehler visited our booth in the morning and talked with our president, Dr. Mori. He only visited 4 companies out of all exhibitors, and Mori Seiki was the only foreign company. President Koehler asked Dr. Mori many questions about Mori Seiki products, and his visit went longer than scheduled.
