| The
NV5000 vertical machining center-the
new world standard makes its debut. Product
presentations were held on March 15th
and 16th at the Iga Plant and the various
technical centers. |

The
NV5000 set the new standard in vertical
machining centers, backed with confidence
by Mori Seiki. It was developed to achieve
world-
class standards of quality, price, and productivity.
A full description of the NV5000's specifications
will be made at the simultaneous product
presentations held in March. |

As the economy continues to feel the
recession, manufacturers are pinning productivity hopes
on cost reductions through raised efficiency. At Mori
Seiki, we recognized those needs early on and in November
2000 began development of a next-generation vertical
machining center designed specifically to raise customer
profits.
When development began, we incorporated a variety of
new technologies while pursuing convenience that would
exceed that of conventional machining centers. To begin
with, we drastically raised the acceleration and deceleration
speeds for the spindle and feed, while at the same time,
we increasing the capacity-operating rate of the machine
by raising ease of use and maintenance. Efforts in the
area of digital design and MTTR (Mean Time To Repair),
as well as IT*1 and ecological considerations,
allows us to bring out the best possible performance.
We also implemented a thorough revision Fof running costs,
tool, and machine lifespan, as these are important factors
in raising profits.
And on March 15th and 16th the NV5000 was unveiled simultaneously
throughout the country at product presentations held
at the Iga Plant and technical centers. Alongside presentations
on features, demonstrations were also performed to show
actual comparisons of productivity. Demonstrations also
were held at exhibitions at technical centers throughout
the country using actual machines, so be sure to visit
your nearest Mori Seiki technical center and see for
yourself the outstanding performance of the NV5000. |

Some of
the main features of the NV5000 are:
1.Basic Design
By using 3-D CAD modeling and repeated testing with FEM*2 analysis,
solid strength has been ensured through use of digital design for the basic design.
The current design is a result of evaluations of two types of double housing
prototypes built specifically for this purpose. The size of the machine is the
smallest in its class.
2.High-Speed Mechanism
With the goal of reducing non-cutting time, acceleration and deceleration
times have been dramatically reduce over conventional machining centers for the
spindle and rapid feed at all axes. This has further allowed excellent high-speed
synchronized tapping, synchronizing the spindle revolution speed and the Z-axis
feed rate. In comparison trials with the previous SV-503, the NV5000 achieves
1.5 times greater speed for tapping holes of the same size and depth.
3.High-precision
Of all vertical machining centers in existence, our products have
always had a reputation for high accuracy. We have contributed to stable supply
of high-quality workpiece by making it possible to equip machines with a thermal
growth compensation function.
4.Improved Convenience
The operation environment, including the width the door opens to
and the approach to the machine, has been designed by applying our long years
of experience and listening to our customers' suggestions. The internal and external
chip conveyors on the NV5000 have been integrated into one unit. This minimizes
chip disposal and maintenance hassle.
5.Eco- friendly design
We have incorporated a wide range of new technologies that reduce
the environmental burden-one of the biggest concerns facing the industry today.
For example, we have used a mechanism to reduce lubricant consumption with oil-free
roller guides and an oil-bath ATC.
6.MTTR (Mean Time To Repair)
The NV5000 has been designed to reduce MTTR, an indicator of overall
maintainability and is important when raising productivity. Eliminating disposable
parts and redesigning the layout of the various components that make up the machine
allows efficient performance of maintenance and tuning. |

Until now, Mori
Seiki has produced a large number of machining centers
and CNC lathes, but with the NV5000, we have concentrated
all our own expertise and comments from suggestions
into one machine, making this a truly multipurpose
machine.
This machine symbolizes a new direction for Mori Seiki
development and manufacture, so we are confident it will
live up to your expectations. |
