Mori Seiki in 2005 – Kicking Off
With a New System for Boosting Our Engineering Power and Raising Quality.

At Mori Seiki, we completely revamped the structure and workings of various departments and sections in February 2005.
Our main goal in these changes is to increase our engineering power and create a " total quality " system throughout the company. This is part of our efforts to create a uniform service system throughout the world and improve reliability – our goals for 2005. Under our new system, eight sections have been newly added and five existing ones have undergone name changes.
In this issue, we'll take a look at the new Engineering Headquarters and Quality Headquarters, designed to increase customer satisfaction.

■ Engineering Headquarters
As the environment surrounding the manufacturing industry continues to change rapidly and customers' needs become ever more diverse, production asset manufacturers, including machine tool makers, are under increasing pressure to deliver solutions that match individual customer needs. The Engineering Headquarters takes care of everything from technical proposals and quotes to contracts, on-site machining, delivery, and inspections, handling all aspects as a single process in order to resolve any challenge a customer might face. The Headquarters is a combination of an engineering department, a machining technology department, and an applications & machine acceptance center, all with locations in Japan, Asia, the Americas, and Europe. Taking over operations from the Solution Center, the work done here has become even more specialized, boosting the engineering power of our system. Let's take a look at what each of the sections does.

The Engineering Department, covering the whole world from its three locations in Iga, Chicago, and Stuttgart, acts as the technical help desk for Mori Seiki. It handles all major jobs related to engineering, doing everything from hammering out machining concepts and choosing the right machines, tools, and peripherals, to making proposals, explaining machining technologies, and putting on presentation seminars.

The Machining Technology Department does all the test machining for the machining plans put together by the Engineering Department. By using real numbers in the plans, accurate cost performance and other types of simulations can be done for customers, helping them choose a machine and knowing exactly what they're going to get. Lastly, the Applications & Machine Acceptance Center centrally manages 70 application engineers in Japan. This section provides backup for customers in the area of service support, responding to questions about machining and programs and to any kinds of machine problems that might come up.

The Engineering Headquarters brings all of its sections together into one system to solve customer problems. We always provide the right answer, so if you have any questions, feel free to drop by your nearest Technical Center.

■Quality Headquarters
The Quality Headquarters has been established to promote more robust quality management throughout our company. Previously working as a part of the Development and Manufacturing Headquarters, this new division centrally manages not only quality for development and manufacturing, but also sales, service, purchasing, and administration and management.

This ensures that all aspects of Mori Seiki's operations reach our goal of total quality. Meeting our customers' expectations, delivering peace of mind, satisfaction, and excitement, and building a solid relationship based on trust are the essence of quality, and we will deliver them no matter what it takes.

One job of the Quality Headquarters is creating products only after going through a number of stringent quality processes, including design reviews at the new product development stage, verification, and endurance destruction testing of unit prototypes. Then, at the mass-production stage, we have created a system to prevent mistakes and established a production workflow that assures quality at stage of the production process. Completed machines undergo a 100-hour running test before being delivered to customers.

After delivery and installation, we have put a system in place to collect all customer opinions that are given back to the relevant departments for meticulous customer follow-up. The Quality Headquarters will continue delivering " flawless quality " to our customers, always working to exceed their expectations.

Consistent engineering service and quality management throughout the company.
You can expect great things from the new Mori Seiki in 2005!

Welcome to the new " problem-solving " showroom
in the Chiba Campus.

At Mori Seiki, we have opened a " problem-solving " showroom in the Chiba Campus for handling engineering-related problems. It is designed as an environment for finding the right answers to customers' problems, fully equipped with over 20 machine tools, a CAD/CAM room, a 3-D measurement room, a remote maintenance simulation room, and more. This showroom solves all customer challenges rapidly, thanks to various advantages such as being able to see immediate precision results for test machining.

And of course it also serves as a normal showroom, allowing customers to check out actual machines, so drop by anytime.
