Of the 546 companies at the exhibition, Mori Seiki had the largest booth <2,430 m2 (26,156.5 ft2)>. We were able to have many more customers visiting our booth than last time. In particular, the booth was always full throughout the 3-day holiday, and we received many specific inquiries from customers.

5-axis machining on the NMV5000 DCG, which attracted many customers' attention. The Mori Seiki workshop was packed
Among all the machines on display, the ones which attracted the most attention were the two units of the NMV5000 DCG 5-axis machining center. Since the number of customers in the parts machining industry who are utilizing 5-axis machines is increasing, we received more inquiries than we expected. Many customers were also interested in the demonstration of the 3D interference checking function on the NT Series of high-precision, high-efficiency integrated mill turn centers. And the NZ2000 T3Y3 with 3 turrets with built-in milling motors had a tremendous impact as a pre-release display machine. With this machine, which makes the most of its 3 turrets, we think we were able to introduce our customers to a new era in mass production machining. On November 3, we held a workshop with the title, “Machining with today's 5-axis machines.” This was standing room only, with many more people than the 120 the room would hold, proving the high level of interest in 5-axis machining.

What makes Mori Seiki’s machines special among all the new machines presented by various manufacturers is our range of original technologies. “Driven at the Center of Gravity,” which is used for many of the machines in our line-up, “DDM™ (Direct Drive Motor),” which contributes to faster drive systems, and the ultimate turret called the “Built-in Motor Turret™”. In addition to these familiar technologies, we introduced new ones such as the “STC (Smart Thermal Control)” thermal displacement control function, the “Adaptive Balancer” which controls rotational run-out during turning of complex-shaped workpieces, and the “OMNI-VISION” system which creates identical digital models of the actual machine setup using CCD cameras. This means that now we have more technologies supporting the evolution of the manufacturing industry than ever before.

We have already received many inquiries from customers about the Dura Series, which offers reasonable prices and a reliable machine structure. During JIMTOF2006, many customers who have already purchased the DuraVertical vertical machining center or the DuraTurn CNC lathe, and who are awaiting delivery, came to see them with high expectations. Judging from their comments, they regard the speed of both machines very highly. It was particularly noticeable how many customers came from overseas especially to see the Dura Series.
The JIMTOF2006 technical trade show was held amidst favorable economic conditions worldwide. Customers who came to the exhibition saw Mori Seiki's abundant technologies, and we also received positive energy through the conversations we had with them. We also had many students visiting our booth this time, and this gave us a great chance to show what machine tools are to the producers of the future. We hope that this trade show will further revitalize the machine tool industry. Thank you again for coming to the exhibition.

In addition to our new display machines, what many customers stopped to see were the entries in the “Cutting Dream Contest 2006.” The area around the showcases was crowded with customers who were overwhelmed by the sophisticated workpieces on display and who were trying to figure out how they had been machined.
Many companies who won prizes attended the awards ceremony, which took place at the JIMTOF exhibition site on November 2. Our president, Dr. Mori, announced that next year's contest will be held at the EMO exhibition in Europe. In future, the “Cutting Dream Contest” will evolve into an global event.
