M-TEC Co., Ltd. Asaka, Saitama: November 2007 As a racing engine contractor, M-TEC Co., Ltd. has achieved sparkling results in Formula 1 and the Le Mans 24-hour race with their famous "MUGEN" brand. At the moment, as well as designing, developing and assembling parts such as racing car engines, they do technical servicing for Honda on the F1 circuit and make and sell tuning parts and accessories for Honda cars. Recently we spoke with Mr. Kameda, Section Chief of the Machine Manufacturing Section in the Production Department at their head office in Asaka City, Saitama. This company's relationship with Mori Seiki started in 2002. The current Deputy Chief of the Machine Manufacturing Section, Mr. Harai, felt strongly from his days in a different department that gfor lathes, it had to be Mori Seiki.h In that year he visited our Iga Campus and purchased an SL-303BMC/1500 CNC lathe and an MT2500S/1500 multi-axis turning center. After that, in 2005 and 2006 they bought an NL2500/700 CNC lathe, two NV5000α1B/40 vertical machining centers and an NH6300 DCG horizontal machining center. The MT2500S/1500fs operating rate is much higher now than when they first introduced it, and it is now their leading machine, which "lets us do machining which we couldn't do without it." Its accuracy is so good that it can do jobs demanding the strictest standards. They use our CNC lathes for machining drive parts such as cam shafts and after-parts for commercial cars. In particular, he praised the accuracy of the NL, saying "the surface is better because it controls vibration." On the other hand, their machining centers are mainly used for finishing, and Honda told them that the accuracy of their parts "is better than it used to be." Also, for Mr. Kameda, who has been involved with machining for many years, DCG® (Driven at the Center of Gravity) and the Box-in-Box Construction, which are used in the NH6300 DCG, are fascinating structures in terms of accuracy and rigidity. He also offered high praise for the zero-overhang structure of the NV4000 DCG and the NV6000 DCG. Mori Seiki machines are also popular with the factory operators on the factory floor, since they hardly ever break down. "In manufacturing, we always feel as though we're in a race too." This was the attitude expressed by Mr. Kameda as he stood in front of one of the racing engines, for which high quality is essential. In machining, the principle is very clear: "Straight things must be completely straight, and round things must be perfectly round." As the "MUGEN" brand symbolizes, precision is a neverending challenge for M-TEC, but we at Mori Seiki want to join in this race too, as their partner in parts machining. |
